‘BJP’s women’s reservation move aimed at 2024 polls’

SHILLONG, Sep 29: All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson Onika Mehrotra has slammed the BJP over the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill, saying it was merely eyewash aimed at making gains in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Mehrotra, who was here in the city, emphasised that altering the nomenclature of the bill would not deceive the women of the nation and dared the central government to promptly implement the Bill if their intentions were genuine.
She pointed out that the Women’s Reservation Bill was initially introduced by the Congress party but it failed to receive clearance from the Lok Sabha in 2010.
She also questioned the BJP’s inaction on the Bill since coming to power in 2014.
