SHILLONG, Sep 30: To celebrate its 98th Raising Day, Military Nursing Service Officers (MNS) of Military Hospital, Shillong is organising a walkathon on October 3.
Brigadier S N Kulkarni, Commandant Military Hospital Shillong will flag off the event.
In the run up to the raising day, multiple events were organised as part of the celebrations including out-reach activities like health talks, First Aid/cardiopulmonary resuscitation demonstrations at various school in the city and a pledge ceremony were also organised
The MNS traces its origin in the Army Nursing Service formed in 1881 as part of the Royal Army.
After the end for the First World War on October 1, 1926, the Army Nursing Service was granted permanent status in the Army. Since, then October 1st was formally adopted as the raising day of the Military Nursing Service.
The role of MNS is to provide excellence in patient care at Military Hospitals of Indian Army, Navy and Air Force both in war and peace. Apart from the professional activities, MNS officers have also participated and brought laurels in sports and adventure activities at national and international levels. The officers of the MNS endeavour to wipe out the sorrow of the wounded and to bring a smile despite adversity with a motto – ‘Service with a Smile’.
