14-year-old boy’s body fished out of Kynshi river

MAWKYRWAT, Oct 2: The Special Response Team (SRT) along with the villagers of Nongmallang, Nongtnger and Nongjri villages in South West Khasi Hills retrieved the body of a 14-year-old-boy on Monday, four days after he drowned in Kynshi river.
The police said that the drowning incident occurred on Friday afternoon.
The victim has been identified as Mario Thongni Nongmor (14) of Nongmallang village, who drowned in the river while en route to Nongmallang village from Nongjri.
Police said that the boy was coming back with his father from Nonghyllam to spend his holidays from school in his village. His father who was with him managed to save himself but was unable to save his son. Efforts were made by Fire and Emergency Services, Mawkyrwat, along with the villagers of Nongmallang, Nongtnger and Nongjri to recover the body but in vain.
However, around 11:45 am of Monday, the SRT recovered the body from a depth of 500 metres in the river.
