SHILLONG, Oct 4: The cancer patients in Meghalaya as well as other parts of the Northeast are in for some relief with the eagerly-awaited but abnormally-delayed Regional Cancer Centre at NEIGRIHMS likely to be inaugurated shortly.
A government source on Wednesday said if everything goes well, the cancer centre may be inaugurated in the next 10-15 days.
The process of recruitment is being finalized by the Health Ministry in New Delhi.
The cancer centre equipped with state-of-the-art medical gadgets, will be a great boon for cancer patients who, otherwise, have to travel beyond the state for treatment.
The NEIGRIHMS cancer centre will be a composite unit having surgical, medical and radiation oncology branches.
The construction work was carried out by Larsen & Toubro (L&T).
Apart from the cancer centre, a nursing college and a guest house have also been constructed on the institute’s premises in New Shillong Township.
