Phase 2 of Tribal Artisans mela held at Ampati

Tura, Oct 6: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in collaboration with the District Administration and MBMA, South West Garo Hills, on Friday hosted the One Day Tribal Artisans Empanelment Mela Phase 2 at the Farmers’ Market, Ampati. The event was a vibrant celebration of the rich heritage and exceptional craftsmanship of tribal artisans hailing from diverse corners of South West Garo Hills.

Part of the “Marketing & Logistics Support to the promotion of tribal products in North Eastern region (PTP-NER Scheme),” the event represents a significant milestone in empowering the tribal artisans of South West Garo Hills.

During the mela, artisans presented their samples, taking their first steps toward showcasing their exceptional craftsmanship on a larger stage. The event stood as a unique opportunity for local artisans to have their talents recognized and their products marketed through TRIFED’s extensive network.

Addressing the inaugural function as the Chief Guest, RZD Shira, ADC, South West Garo Hills, highlighted the abundance of talented artists in the region. He stressed that the Mela aims to provide an opportunity to enhance the quality of their work and transform their skills and talents into viable businesses. He urged the artisans to seize such opportunities to empower themselves and establish sustainable livelihoods.

Athivan Shira, Functional Manager, DCIC, and Salsara Sangma, ASCO, Soil and Water Conservation Department, shared insights into the various available schemes for Tribal Artisans through their respective departments. Rajat Nidhi, a representative of Meghalaya Rural Bank, provided information on the availability of Health Insurance Schemes.

Col. Sayam Kashyap, General Manager, TRIFED Head Office, Delhi, elaborated on the schemes and activities of TRIFED, underscoring the organization’s commitment to supporting tribal artisans.

Distinguished dignitaries who also attended the mela included, YW Momin, ADC, South West Garo Hills; Col. Sayam Kashyap, General Manager, TRIFED Head Office, Delhi; Pamthing Keishing, Regional Manager, TRIFED, Guwahati; Asif Ekbal Hussain, Senior Program Executive, TRIFED, Guwahati.

Representatives and officials from various line departments were also present.
