SHILLONG, Oct 5: Just days after the High Court of Meghalaya directed the state government and the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) to resolve the relocation issue within this year, the state government has decided to call the latter for talks after Durga Puja.
Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar told media persons on Thursday that the issue would be resolved soon.
Denying any demand from the HPC for additional land, the minister said it was a request from their side and the government is yet to discuss the matter with them.
“We are under the process of negotiation and something positive will emerge soon,” Dhar said.
The High Court had recently made a clarion call for every endeavour to ensure that the issues between the state government and HPC are resolved in course of this calendar year.
During the hearing, the court directed the state to file a report indicating the progress made with reference to the relocation process when the matter is taken up for hearing on November 8.
