SHILLONG, Oct 5: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Thursday made it clear that the party’s doors were closed for political aspirants, including sitting MLAs or MDCs.
“We don’t poach leaders but produce leaders. The VPP is popular among the people and there have been many wanting to infiltrate into the VPP from other parties,” VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said while talking about the party’s preparations for the upcoming autonomous district council elections.
“When we select the candidates we want to select the best because we want to give the best services to the people. It may take time but once when we take the decision it will be in the best interest of the people,” he said.
Asked if the candidate identifying process has started, he said, “There are many aspirants for the party tickets and we try to get the feedback from the people. We have started to understand the aspirants by going to the people and depending on the feedback and their track record, we will choose accordingly.”
