Ri-Bhoi school gets support
to launch FLN classroom
SHILLONG, Oct 6: In pursuit of holistic development of children and with the objective of improving the foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) in students during formative years, Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Bharti Enterprises Ltd., has extended its support to Umroi Presbyterian Higher Secondary School in Ri-Bhoi in launching FLN classroom. The classroom has been integrated with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to lead teaching and learning through a modern and practical approach. The classroom was officially inaugurated by State Pedagogy Coordinator, SEMAM-SSA & DSEL, Mary Lynrah, DSEO, Ri-Bhoi, PL Nonglait, SDSEO & DMC, Ri-Bhoi, Vincent Nanglang, Project Coordinator, Bharti Foundation Meghalaya, Ansumon Gogoi, Assistant Professor, Shillong College, S Kharshandi, and BMC, Bhoirymbong Block, Ri-Bhoi, Ellika Synrem. Umroi Presbyterian Higher Secondary School is recognised in Ri-Bhoi as a prominent education centre for its exceptional education standards and a diverse range of co-curricular activities. The FLN classroom in the school is expected to ignite enthusiasm in children, motivating them to actively engage and strive for the best knowledge achievable through education within the school. Bharti Foundation has been supporting the school in various co-scholastic areas, especially through the clubs in the school. Some of the clubs such as literacy clubs, eco and youth clubs, art and culture, and science and innovation clubs enable the students to actively take part in learning through hands-on activities and explore their potential and talents.

 

No Chemistry teacher in WJH

JOWAI, Oct 6: Concerned about the grievances and resentment among students, the KSU War Jaintia Circle conducted a spot inspection of Sohkha Government Higher Secondary School in West Jaintia Hills, and learned that the school has been functioning without a Chemistry teacher since March 2023. On inquiring further, the union found out that the government has been allegedly unable to fill the vacancy despite application being invited for the teacher’s post.

 

On-campus training prog on improved agri technologies
SHILLONG, Oct 6: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Khasi Hills, conducted a three-day on-campus training programme for extension personnel on ‘Improved Agricultural Technologies’ at KVK campus, which concluded on Thursday. A total of 20 participants attended the programme consisting of field functionaries from Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Nongstoin Social Service Society (NSSS) and members of the NGO DAWN, that are all working within the district and in harmony with the farming community for disseminating scientific method of agricultural practices with the aim to alleviate the farming scenario of the district. An awareness programme on ICT tools including MEG CROPSAP, Farmers’ ID was also shared by Senior Director, NIC Shillong, A Wanswet. The programme was concluded with an interactive session between experts and participants in which they actively shared and highlighted their views and further expectation from such a programme. The queries were taken up by the experts for discussion and clarification about the technical applicability and adaptability of technologies under field condition.
