SHILLONG, Oct 6: The Centre has sanctioned 266 new Anganwadi centres and upgrade of 1,266 mini ones to full-fledged centres in Meghalaya.
Informing this, Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh said the sanction for upgrade of over 1,200 Anganwadi centres from mini to main centres would include the increase in each of these centres and instead of one, there will now be two workers, and this will involve enhancements such as increase in the honorarium of Anganwadi workers from Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,500 per month.
He said it also includes the appointment of Anganwadi helpers at Rs 2,250 per month, supply of uniforms, medicine kits, furniture etc., besides appointment of 51 lady supervisors.
The Social Welfare minister said that the total fund requirement which is being released comes to around Rs 826 lakh with the central and state share being Rs 743.74 lakh and Rs 82.64 lakh in a 90/10 pattern.

Stating that the action taken by the state government in pursuance of the sanction will be intimated to the Centre every two months beginning October 1, Lyngdoh said these sanctions are a major achievement for Meghalaya as the number of 1,500 uncovered villages will now come down.
