SHILLONG, Oct 7: The State BJP will begin visiting all the districts of the state starting with the entire Jaintia Hills region next week to zero in on the candidates fit for various posts in the party.
“It will take a little bit time as I am going around taking advice from everyone. I will be visiting from next week as I will have to get the advice from the districts also as all are my family members so I will have to bring unity among ourselves,” said BJP president Rikman G Momin when asked about electing the new office-bearers of the party.
He said that his visit will start from the whole of Jaintia Hills region followed by Khasi Hills and Garo Hills region.
“First and foremost, I am here to strengthen the party and for that I will have to visit my family members first in the entire state of Meghalaya,” he said.
He said that during his visit to the various districts of the state, he will gather feedback and collate all the information.
“After that, who is the right person for the post, I will decide who can dedicate (themselves) for the party because we have to work for the party and the country. The list will be prepared and sent to Delhi for approval,” he said.
Asked about the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Momin said the party has to keep on bolstering itself for any elections.
The state unit has already started organising itself, he added.
It may be recalled that BJP leader Ernest Mawrie was recently replaced by senior party leader from Garo Hills, Rikman G Momin.
After assuming charge on October 3, Momin had pitched for unity among the party leaders.
He had expressed readiness to strengthen the party and work with all leaders including the ex-president, Ernest Mawrie.
Earlier, with regard to the Lok Sabha polls, Momin had said as soon as the central leadership of the party gives a go-ahead, they will begin the work.
“In people’s minds, there is still hope for BJP as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working for the poor with several schemes to help them,” the state BJP president said.
Admitting that the party has not been successful in the last two Assembly elections in the state, the state BJP chief had said that with the two MLAs and the combined effort, they expect things to change for better.
He had also stated that the vote share of the party has gone up significantly, while adding that they want to win more seats.
