Crackdown on modified exhaust

SHILLONG, Oct 10: The Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has launched a crackdown on motorcycles with modified and altered exhaust pipes and detected seven cases on Tuesday.
SP City Vivek Syiem informed that in view of the nuisance and inconvenience caused by the motorists with modified, altered exhaust pipes, the STP has been conducting vigorous vehicle checking and detected seven such cases in the last 48 hours.
“Furthermore, the modified/ altered exhaust pipes of detected motorcycles were replaced with the original exhaust pipe following the fine imposed upon them,” he said.
Meanwhile, the STP also appealed to all vehicle owners, who have retrofitted their exhaust pipes to kindly get them removed and replace them with original ones. The drive against modified exhaust pipes including other MV Act violations will continue and stringent action will be taken against violators, the SP warned.
