Shillong, October 16: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced on Sunday that it had terminated the employment of 16 individuals and blacklisted six staffing firms in response to its investigation into the bribes-for-jobs scandal.

As per IANS, according to an official exchange filing, the company’s investigation revealed the involvement of 19 employees, with appropriate actions taken. Specifically, 16 employees were separated from the company for violations of the code of conduct, and three employees were removed from their roles in the resource management function.

TCS also imposed sanctions on six vendor entities, their owners, and affiliates, prohibiting them from conducting any business with the company.

Additionally, TCS expressed its commitment to bolstering governance measures, including the regular rotation of personnel in key roles within the resource management function, enhanced analytics for supplier management, periodic declarations by vendors regarding compliance with the Tata Code of Conduct, and audits of the vendor management process.

During a post-earnings interaction with reporters, TCS Chief Executive K. Krithivasan confirmed that the investigation had been completed, and appropriate actions had been taken, effectively closing the matter.

Earlier reports had disclosed a multi-crore recruitment scam within TCS, compromising the hiring process at the Tata Group firm.

The scandal involved some TCS employees accepting bribes from staffing companies in exchange for job placements. The monetary value of the scandal was reported to be as high as approximately Rs 100 crore, resulting in the termination of four officials from the resource management group and a ban on three staffing firms.

Following the TCS job scandal, the Indian Staffing Federation (ISF) issued a statement emphasizing its robust due diligence process for accepting staffing companies as members and urging all stakeholders to engage staffing companies prioritizing ethical employment practices and regulatory compliance.
