Syria to resume air traffic in Aleppo airport
Damascus, Oct 16: Syria’s Transport Ministry has announced the resumption of air traffic at the airport of the northern province of Aleppo after the damage caused by the latest Israeli missile attack was fixed. In a statement carried by the state news agency SANA, the Ministry said on Sunday that the airport will resume its operation on Monday after being repaired from the damage caused by the Israeli missile strike on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Ministry said it would allow airlines to reschedule their flights by either using the Aleppo International Airport or the still functional Latakia airport as alternatives to the Damascus International Airport, which is still undergoing extensive repairs after being hit by an Israeli missile attack on Thursday. Both the airports in Aleppo and Damascus went out of service following the Israeli forces’ attacks on Thursday. Syria’s Transport Ministry announced to fix the runway of the Aleppo airport on Saturday, when its runway was again struck by Israeli forces. (IANS)

Rishi Sunak visits Jewish school
London, Oct 16: Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Monday visited a Jewish school here and reiterated his government’s commitment to protect Britain’s Jews from antisemitic attacks amid the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict. The British Indian leader also stressed that Israel’s operations must centre on the terrorist group Hamas to avoid an escalation of conflict in the region. He pointed to the spy planes deployed by the UK to the eastern Mediterranean region to monitor and prevent arms shipments from landing in terrorist hands. “I’m determined to ensure that our Jewish community is able to feel safe on our streets, that there is no place in our society for antisemitism, and we will do everything we can to stamp it out and where it happens,” said Sunak during his visit to the Jewish school in north London. He attended an assembly at the secondary school before answering a few questions from those present. (PTI)

Macron holds security meeting
Arras (France), Oct 16: French President Emmanuel Macron was holding Monday a special security meeting amid heightened alert against feared terror threats, as a high school where a teacher was fatally stabbed in an attack last week has been evacuated over a bomb alert. Several hundreds of students and teachers could be seen going back into the high school in the northern town of Arras after what appeared to be a false. It comes after a teacher was killed and three other people wounded on Friday in an attack by a former student suspected of Islamic radicalisation. The prefecture of the northern region where the high school is located said that “all precautionary and safety measures” have been taken after the bomb threat was made via a police website. A demining team was on site. He cut short travel plans abroad to hold a security meeting at midday with the prime minister and other key government members as well as top military and counterterrorism officials. Education Minister Gabriel Attal said 168 bomb threats in French schools have been reported since the beginning of September. “This is inadmissible and unacceptable,” he said. (AP)
