Nongpoh, Oct 17: Work orders for Poshan Vatika and Rainwater Harvesting were distributed to Village Organizations (VO) of Umling and Umsning C&RD Blocks at a function held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Ri-Bhoi on Tuesday. District Deputy Commissioner, Arpit Upadhaya, presided over the ceremony marking the first initiative of its kind in the state. The programme will be implemented by 100 VOs/SHGs in the four C&RD Blocks including Umsning, Umling, Jirang, and Bhoirymbong.
The deputy commissioner congratulated the VO members in attendance and outlined the goals of Saksham Anganwadi, emphasising its role in strengthening and upgrading existing Anganwadi centers to improve nutritional services, including the establishment of Poshan Vatika (Kitchen Gardens) and Rainwater harvesting facilities. These enhancements are expected to contribute to the overall development of children under six years of age, encompassing physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
Furthermore, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children in 100 AWCs will benefit from these improvements, aligning with the programme’s objectives.
Arpit Upadhaya expressed hope that the initiative would contribute to achieving sustainable development goals, particularly benefiting women and children. He urged the VOs to effectively utilise the scheme, take ownership of their designated tasks, and adhere to the provided criteria and guidelines in collaboration with the ICDS department.
