SHILLONG, Oct 19: The conference hall of St Anthony’s College transformed into a sensory ode to represent the spirit of the season. The fifth-semester students of media technologies have orchestrated an art exhibition with the theme ‘Synrai,’ which translates to ‘Autumn’ in Khasi.
The exhibition intended to give the visitors a firsthand experience of the feel of Autumn and put together a range of artistic expressions through their photographs, paintings, scents and sounds of everything the season encompasses.
The sound station included the sounds of crushed leaves, birds chirping early in the morning, the Autumn of urban and the rural areas, helping the listener to transcend themselves into the essence of the season.
Etawanda Saiborne, Associate Professor at St Anthony’s College, shared this distinctive aspect of the exhibition, emphasising the blend of art and eco-consciousness.
The unique aspect of this exhibition was that all the items on display or everything that is used is from recycled products and the students put in their sense of creativity to make it presentable, informed Etawanda Saiborne, Associate professor, St Anthony’s College.
The theme song of ‘Synrai’ which was composed by 3 students was a harmonious ensemble that incorporates traditional Khasi instruments, including the ‘ksing’, ‘duitara’, ‘besli’, among others.
