Nongpoh, Oct 26: In a significant milestone, the Ri Bhoi Dorbar, an organization comprising prominent leaders, headmen and former politicians, marked its 58th year of existence by laying the foundation stone for its dedicated office in Nongthymmai, Umsning. The leadership of RB Shadap, serving as President, has played a pivotal role in this endeavor.
Since its establishment in 1965, the Ri Bhoi Dorbar had been operating from rented office premises in Nongthymmai Umsning. The initiation of construction for its fully-fledged office represents a historic and momentous occasion for the organization.
During a ceremony held on Thursday, the foundation stone for the Ri Bhoi Dorbar’s office was unveiled by Raja Brahma, the Project Director of the District Rural Development Agency, Ri Bhoi District. Also present at the event were E Lyngdoh, the Block Development Officer of Umsning C & RD Block, and former MDCs from Ri Bhoi District, including Otril Pamshong, RR Makdoh, and William Mynsong, along with other leaders of the Ri Bhoi Dorbar.
The construction of the Ri Bhoi Dorbar’s office received funding through the MPLAD scheme for the year 2021-22, facilitated by Shillong Rajya Sabha MP, Dr. WR Kharlukhi, with an estimated cost of Rs. 10 lakhs. The project is expected to be completed within three months.
During his address at the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Raja Brahma expressed his privilege to be a part of this historic moment. He emphasized the significance of the Ri Bhoi Dorbar as one of the oldest and most esteemed organizations in the district, comprising prominent leaders and former politicians.
Brahma also extended his appreciation and gratitude to Rajya MP Dr. WR Kharlukhi for his substantial financial support, highlighting Dr. Kharlukhi’s close association with the people of Ri Bhoi District and his commitment to the district’s overall development.
Furthermore, Brahma pledged to explore avenues for additional development initiatives for the Ri Bhoi Dorbar’s office, including the provision of essential amenities such as electricity, parking facilities, and restroom facilities. He affirmed the organization’s commitment to collaborate closely with the district’s elected representatives and the District Administration to ensure its continued progress.
