Los Angeles, Oct 25: In a shocking turn of events, the much-anticipated UFC 295 title clash between heavyweight champion Jon Jones and the legendary Stipe Miocic has been canceled.
The unfortunate news was confirmed by UFC CEO Dana White late Tuesday night after Jones sustained a serious torn pectoral muscle during training. This injury is expected to keep him on the sidelines for a lengthy eight-month period.
Dana White took to social media to share the unfortunate news, even posting a video of the incident. With Jones’s withdrawal from the event, Stipe Miocic will also be absent from the card for undisclosed reasons, leaving fans disappointed.
As a result, the spotlight now shifts to a new co-main event scheduled for November 11th at Madison Square Garden in New York. The interim championship title fight will feature two top contenders, Sergei Pavlovich and Tom Aspinall.
Pavlovich, with an impressive record of 18-1 in MMA and a 6-1 record in the UFC, is riding high on a remarkable six-fight winning streak.
His UFC journey began with a loss to Alistair Overeem but was quickly followed by a string of victories against formidable opponents, including Marcelo Golm, Maurice Greene, Shamil Abdurakhimov, Derrick Lewis, Tai Tuivasa, and Curtis Blaydes. Astonishingly, all six of these wins came via first-round knockouts.
On the other side of the octagon, Tom Aspinall, boasting a record of 13-3 in MMA and an equally impressive 6-1 record in the UFC, rebounded from a devastating knee injury in 2022.
He made a triumphant return to the cage this past July, where he finished Marcin Tybura with striking techniques in just 73 seconds. This victory further solidified his perfect promotional finishing rate in victories.
With Jones’s unexpected injury, the UFC 295 event’s dynamics have taken a significant twist, as the vacant light heavyweight title fight between Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira has been elevated to the headline. As fans await the new co-main event between Pavlovich and Aspinall, the MMA world is abuzz with anticipation for the thrilling matchups ahead. (Agencies)
