Tributes paid to Capt Sangma on 33rd death anniv

TURA, Oct 25: The 33rd death anniversary of Meghalaya’s first Chief Minister, Captain Williamson A Sangma was observed at Capt Williamson Memorial Park in Baghmara, South Garo Hills, on Wednesday.
Education Minister and Rongara-Siju MLA, Rakkam A Sangma joined in the programme and paid glowing tribute to the late leader.
The local MLA paid his respect to the founding father of the Meghalaya state in the presence of the South Garo Hills deputy commissioner, the district police chief and other top officials of Baghmara.
A memorial service was also observed at Siju Mondal Gitok Playground.
Speaking on the occasion, the Education minister recalled the enormous contribution of Capt Sangma in creation of Meghalaya and said that he was a man of committed love and vision who never had a quest for fame or money.
He also suggested to the gathering that in order to ensure information on Capt Sangma about his various contributions towards the betterment of the state, a book should be written in his honour. He further informed that an artificial turf with gallery has been sanctioned to Siju Mondal Gitok Playground under Khelo India Scheme to benefit the people of the area.
The function at Siju also witnessed the presentation of appreciation and cash awards to those students belonging under Siju area who have secured 1st Division with letter marks in the SSLC examinations 2023.
