Four extortionists held

SHILLONG, Oct 26: The East Khasi Hills Police on Thursday arrested four persons from Police Bazar after they were caught serving extortion notes to one of the shops.
The police, earlier, had received inputs about extortion in commercial areas of Police Bazar and lewduh. The Special Cell of EKH Police then laid a trap, which led to the arrest.
Superintendent of Police (City), Vivek Syiem said a suo motu case has been registered at Sadar Police Station for extortion against the four arrested persons.  Police also seized different items from their possession including three extortion letters of Hynniewtrep People Defense Alliance, three extortion receipt books of the same organisation, two donation receipt slips each of United Khasi Movement and Federation of Khasi United People.
Police also seized two donation receipt slips of Confederation of Meghalaya People, a counterfoil receipt slips of Khun Hynniewtrep Youth Council, two donation receipt slips of Hynniewtrep Youth Regions, a scooty (ML05 Q 9828) and four mobile phones.
The SP (City) said that interrogation is on to ascertain outlets/establishments where extortion notes have been served for registering more cases against the culprits and to nab other persons/groups who are involved in the extortion racket in the city.
Some of the accused also have criminal records and were earlier arrested.
Public and business establishments have also been requested by police to give information to them so as to help nab such extortionists and pave way for legal action.
