SHILLONG, Oct 26: Deputy Chief Minister, in-charge of Home (Police), Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said that the state government is still awaiting the proposal from the police headquarters to have a Commissionerate in Shillong.
“The police headquarters and the DGP have been instructed to work out everything and send the proposal to the government,” said Tynsong.
Talking about the recruitment process in the police department, Tynsong said, “Recruitment process is almost completed. Few issues were there relating to the recruitment board rules. Few issues will take it to Cabinet and hopefully the cabinet will approve a few changes in the rules which need to be made and once that is done we will go for advertisement and complete the whole process of recruitment”.
He said that the state government needs to recruit in the next recruitment board a minimum of 2,500 personnel.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had earlier said that the state government is working towards a major reformation in the police department, starting with a proposal to have a Commissionerate in Shillong to tackle law and order issues in the capital.
Conrad had said that the Commissionerate will comprise senior officials and a bigger team. He had mentioned there are no specific rules for rationalisation of posting and transfer of police officers but the government is taking some steps such as issuing office memorandums requiring posting in certain parts of the state for a minimum of three years.
Admitting there would be challenges, he said the government is trying to systematise the transfer and posting as far as possible.
He also said the government is developing forensic labs with equipment for quick investigation.
