SHILLONG, Oct 30: The KHADC has finalised the list of events for the upcoming Monolith Festival, which will now be held from December 14 to 16.
The Council had earlier proposed to host the festival from December 6 to 8.
Talking to The Shillong Times here on Monday, KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pyniaid Sing Syiem said that the list of events which was finalised by the committee headed by Executive Member in-charge Arts and Culture department, Victor Ranee, was submitted to the Tourism department two weeks earlier.
According to him, the Tourism department will now float the tender to invite an event management firm to help in organising various events proposed by the Council.
The CEM also said that the preparations for the Monolith Festival are on track.
Syiem said that the renovation work at the Khasi Heritage Village in Mawphlang is going on in full swing for the past three weeks.
He added that the renovation of the internal roads right from Mawngap till the venue will start next week.
The KHADC CEM also said that they had to reschedule the dates of the festival since it was clashing with some of the festivals proposed to be held in Garo Hills.
“But I can assure that this edition of the festival is going to be a massive one,” Syiem added.
It may be mentioned that the festival is set to make a comeback after seven years.
The festival, last conducted in 2016, was halted due to fund constraints earlier. However, the KHADC is collaborating with the Tourism department this time to host the festival in a bid to highlight the Khasi cultures and traditions.
The Heritage Village showcases the rich Khasi culture and tradition in its full representation and the Monolith Festival is aimed at mirroring this to the larger audience, out there.
