Commercial building to replace recreational space, park in Polo

SHILLONG, Oct 31: The Meghalaya government is all set to replace a recreational space which includes a park in Polo with a commercial building.
The Shillong Smart City Limited, entrusted with implementing the Shillong Smart City project, is inviting tender for development of a commercial building on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis at Polo Market junction near Majestic Hotel, Shillong. The proposed development area consists of a recreational space and park. It is located adjacent to Majestic Hotel on one side and the other side stands Matri Temple.
As per the tender document, at present, the parking takes place alongside the road which adds to congestion and hinders the movement of vehicles.
The tender document says that the objective is to reduce the burden of existing parking of taxis, autos and private vehicles.
This move is expected to free the existing carriageway width in the area and provide seamless traffic flow.
The building will be two floors of parking space with separate entry and exits on every floor. A commercial establishment above the parking floors has been considered for conducting trade and various activities.
The proposal consist of a commercial building consisting of dedicated four floors with car parking with additional two floors at the ground level and first floor to facilitate a minimum of 60 cars having separate entry and exits for each floor.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 40.82 crore.
