JOWAI, Oct 31: The Hynniewtrep Border Disputed Redressal Forum (HBDRF) and residents of Elaka Labang Nongphyllut and Pangam Raliang (Block-1) have submitted a written communication to the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills on the alleged persuasion trick plotted by the Karbis for inclusion of Block 1 in Assam.
HBDRF chairman Chandame Sungoh, and Headman of Mojem village, Hopingson Sungoh, have alleged that the Karbis are trying to persuade the people residing along the border, while threatening them not to divulge the fact in a bid to include the areas in Assam. They claimed that Block 2 residents wish to remain with Meghalaya.
The HBDRF said that they have gathered information about the opposition of the Karbis to any meeting, especially relating to border issues.
Further, it was extensively expressed that residents living in areas such as Khanduli Lapangap, Raij Nongjrong and Raij Labang hardly have a chance to transport their agricultural produce to Meghalaya like Wahiajer, Khanduli, Namdong etc., owing to the intervention of the Karbis.
Hence, the forum has urged the district administration and the state government to promptly ensure assistance and safety of the people along the interstate border.
