Navy sailor dies in copter accident
Kochi/New Delhi, Nov 4: A sailor of the Indian Navy died on Saturday in an accident involving a helicopter at a naval base in Kochi. Yogendra Singh, who was a leading airman, died when the helicopter met with the accident while taxiing at at INS Garuda of the Southern Naval Command, officials said. Yadav hailed from Madhya Pradesh. “A Chetak helicopter met with a ground accident today during maintenance taxi checks at INS Garuda, Kochi, resulting in the unfortunate loss of life of one ground crew,” the Navy said in a brief statement. It said a ‘Board of Inquiry” has been ordered to investigate the cause of accident. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar and all personnel of Indian Navy mourned the loss of life and pay tribute to Yogendra Singh, the Navy said. An official of the Kochi Harbour police station, on condition of anonymity, said what they have been informed is the helicopter was on a routine training flight and was landing when the accident occurred. A board of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the accident. The helicopter was on a routine flight and the Indian Navy officials are tightlipped about the incident. (PTI)

 

Fire in Raigad factory: Eight bodies recovered
Mumbai, Nov 4: Eight bodies have been recovered till Saturday afternoon following the fire that broke out at a pharmaceutical company in Maharashtra’s Raigad district a day ago, while search for three missing persons continued, an official said. The blaze at Blue Jet Healthcare in MIDC Mahad in Raigad district, some 170 kilometres from here, started at 11am on Friday, the National Disaster Response Force official added. “While four bodies were found till 7am, another four were recovered till 5pm. These are part of the 11 persons who had gone missing following the fire. Search operations with personnel from local agencies as well as NDRF for the remaining three continue,” he said. As per initial probe, the fire may have started due to a short circuit, leading to barrels filled with chemicals at the site exploding, which further intensified the blaze, the official said. (PTI)
