Shillong, November 5: More than 10 buses were set on fire in Dhaka and various parts of the country following the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) declaration of a 48-hour countrywide blockade.

As per IANS, Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, former Bangladesh Home Minister and current BNP Vice-Chairman, was arrested in connection with cases involving sabotage, violence, and police killings in Dhaka.

The Dhaka court granted a six-day remand to BNP Standing Committee member and former Commerce Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, as well as BNP media cell convener Zahir Uddin Swapan in the murder case of police constable Amirul Islam Parvez.

Incidents of bus arson occurred in various areas on Saturday evening, with multiple fire units working to control the blazes. Additionally, miscreants associated with the BNP-Jamaat alliance set fire to a passenger bus in Bhola, Barisal.

Altaf Hossain Chowdhury was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on charges related to sabotage, violence, and police killings. The BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami had called for a three-day blockade that ended on Thursday.

In a separate incident, BNP youth wing Judo Dal leader Md. Rubel was arrested for setting fire to a sugar truck in Feni. During the three-day blockade called by the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, there were 34 reported cases of arson across the country.
