State Election Commissioner reviews preparations for NC Hills council poll

Guwahati, Nov 6: A preliminary meeting for the upcoming 13th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council election was held at the conference hall of the district magistrate’s office in Haflong on Monday.

The meeting was chaired by the State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar.

District magistrate Simanta Kumar Das gave a briefing on the preliminary management plan for the ensuing polls.

Discussions were held regarding the preparation of a roadmap for smooth conduct of the election besides the number of polling stations to be set up, polling officials to be appointed, district-level nodal officers, transportation and other matters.

Superintendent of police of Dima Hasao district Mayank Kumar also briefed the participants on the security measures and other required logistic support for the conduct of the council election.

A powerpoint presentation, on the measures being taken by the Dima Hasao election office, was given by SDO Sadar Debashis Goswami.

The meeting was also attended by the principal secretary Thai Tsho Daulagupu, principal secretary (N) Debanon Daulagupu, secretaries of the council, additional DCs, assistant commissioners, election officer Dhiman Hazarika and other line department officials.

The State Election Commissioner said that the probable publication of the final electoral roll and the election notification would be made known once all the proper procedures and preparations were complete.

“The State Election Commissioner will also meet political parties on Tuesday and visit polling stations as part of his two-day visit to Dima Hasao district,” an official said.
