Jaipur, Nov 8: Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Wednesday expressed confidence that his party will buck the trend of the incumbent dispensation in Rajasthan being voted out every five years and form the government after the November 25 assembly polls.
He alleged that the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to divert people’s attention from the issue of development and was talking about religion during elections.
Pilot said the Congress was contesting elections unity and is leading in all divisions and the lead will further consolidate as soon as the polling day comes nearer.
Pilot, who was in Tonk from where he is contesting the elections, said, “The tradition of 30 years in Rajasthan…five years of BJP, five years of Congress…that tradition is about to be broken. People have seen the BJP rule at the Centre and they want a change.” “The BJP is trying everything to mislead the public but our issue is of development. The party is fighting the elections with unity, so I can say with full confidence that we will form the government in Rajasthan,” he told PTI.
The former deputy chief minister said the Congress will return to power with a “huge majority” in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh as well. The results in Telangana will shock every one and the Congress will form the government there as well, he said.
“If our government is formed in these four-five states, the Congress and the INDIA bloc will become stronger. This alliance will win the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024,” he said.
Later, he told reporters in Tonk that if the BJP has any plans in the sectors of health, education, employment for the people of Rajasthan, he will welcome but the party “only links religion with politics”.
“They have no option and there is no roadmap. They talk about religion at the time of elections. The Election Commission should take cognizance of it,” he said.
“Every person has the freedom to follow any religion but repeated use of religion in political speeches shows some nervousness because they have nothing to say in the name of development,” Pilot said. The Congress leader said the central government led by the BJP brought “anti-farmer laws”, Agnipath scheme for soldiers’ recruitment.
“Players remained on hunger strike, inflation is skyrocketing, highest unemployment in the country is in the BJP rule. The central government is failed at every front and people want a change at the country level,” he alleged.
Pilot said the Congress is united and it is contesting elections on the issue of development.
“We want to move on the basis of our performance and on what we will be doing. Our election manifesto is going to be released soon. The party has fulfilled the promises made in the manifesto of the last election,” he said.
He said, “The BJP is confused and afraid therefore agencies like Enforcement Directorate are being misused against Congress leaders.” Pilot also claimed that ticket distribution in the BJP has given a wrong message among the people.
In the Congress, he said, the decisions on ticket distribution are made after careful consideration. However, he said, there may be dissatisfaction at some places but the campaign is going on well and the Congress is again going to form government. (PTI)
