Shillong, November 13: Efforts persist to reach around 40 workers feared trapped in Uttarkashi’s Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarakhand.

Officials report that the workers, though trapped, are safe, with established communication and oxygen supply through a pipeline intended for water supply. Food items were delivered via the same pipe, using compressor pressure during the night.

As per a report in India Today, heavy excavator machines are deployed to clear debris, while Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inspected the rescue operations on-site and highlighted the coordination with various agencies, including NDRF and SDRF, emphasizing the state government’s dedicated efforts for the workers’ rescue.

The incident occurred when a segment of the under-construction tunnel between Silkyara and Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri national highway collapsed, trapping at least 40 workers. Promptly informed, the police, National Disaster Response Force, and State Disaster Response Force initiated immediate search and rescue operations.

Chief Minister Dhami remains actively engaged, seeking updates from officials and urging an acceleration of the rescue, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi communicated with him, expressing concern and inquiring about the ongoing rescue efforts.
