SHILLONG, Nov 13: The United Democratic Party (UDP) on Monday invited all the regional parties of the state to rally under the banner of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) and become a force to be reckoned with.
“From time to time, we have been calling all the regional parties to come together. The HSPDP is the only party we have been working together with so far. We hope and believe we will continue in the days to come,” UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh said while referring to the call for unity among the regional forces in Meghalaya.
“We extend our invitation to all the regional parties to come and work together under the banner of RDA,” he added.
He also said the citizens of the state will favour the regional parties over the national ones in the Lok Sabha elections this time.
“It will be different this time. At the end of the day, we have to look at the larger picture. I think the people will definitely give the regional parties a chance this time and we will have to field the right candidate,” Lyngdoh said.
“I am not saying we had wrong candidates in the past. My interactions with people from different walks of life made me realise they have confidence in the UDP,” he said, declining to speak about the Voice of the People Party or any other party.
Asked if the UDP would seek the support of the National People’s Party, he said any party willing to support the UDP is “most welcome”.
