One killed in US hospital shooting
Washington, Nov 18: At least one person was killed in a shooting inside the lobby of a psychiatric hospital in the US state of New Hampshire, while the suspect was shot dead by a police trooper, authorities said. The incident occurred on Friday at the New Hampshire Hospital in Concord city, the state capital, CNN reported, Director of the New Hampshire State Police Col. Mark Hall also confirmed that all patients at the facility were safe following the shooting. Addressing a press briefing on Friday evening, Col. Hall said the suspect, who is yet to be identified, had entered the hospital’s lobby and shot an unnamed individual, the BBC reported. The state police trooper quickly engaged and killed the suspect, he said, adding that the situation was “contained to the front lobby”. The officer went on to say that “one suspicious vehicle is currently being investigated by the state police bomb squad”. He further emphasised there was no ongoing threat to the public. (IANS)

 

38 injured in South Korea hospital fire
Seoul, Nov 18: At least 38 people were injured after a fire ripped through a hospital in South Korea, authorities said on Saturday. The fire broke out at around 8:10 a.m. at a six-storey hospital in Gumi, some 200 km southeast of the capital Seoul, reports Xinhua news agency. Thirty-eight out of 91 evacuees, including patients, suffered minor injuries such as smoke inhalation. The patients were taken to another nearby hospital. The fire authorities conducted several search operations inside the hospital building, but no additional casualty was confirmed. The blaze was believed to have started outside the first floor of the hospital it spread to the upper floors along the outer wall, said sources. It is reported that the police and the fire authorities were investigating the exact cause of the incident. Commissioner Lori Weaver, the head of New Hampshire’s Department of Health and Human Services, told reporters that the hospital will remain temporarily closed to visitors but support would be provided to patients and staff “as we work through this tragedy together”, reports CNN. Four men charged with murder of British Sikh teen
London, Nov 18: Four men arrested on suspicion of the murder of a British Sikh teenager following a street fight in south-west London have been charged to appear before the city’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday. Amandeep Singh, 21, Manjit Singh, 27, Ajmeer Singh, 31, and Poran Singh, 71 – British Sikhs from the Southall suburb of London – were charged with the murder of 17-year-old Simarjeet Singh Nangpal by the Metropolitan Police overnight on Friday. Police were called to reports of a fight in progress at Burket Close, Hounslow, and attended along with the London Ambulance Service in the early hours of Wednesday. Nangpal, was found with stab injuries and “despite the best efforts of the emergency services, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene”. “We are working around the clock to find those responsible for Simarjeet’s murder, as his family struggle to come to terms with their loss,” said Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe of the Met Police in an earlier statement.
