SHILLONG, Nov 21: In view of the rising cases of financial frauds, the KSU East Jaintia Hills District Unit on Wednesday urged the State Bank of India to conduct awareness programme to sensitise the SBI Ladrymbai Branch account holders on fraud.
“As you are well aware, fraudulent activities have become increasingly common in the financial sector. These scams can cause significant financial losses to customers and damage the reputation of banking institutions. It is essential that we educate our customers about the various types of fraud, preventive measures, and what to do in case of a fraud incident,” union’s president, Stremly N Suchen, said in a letter to the Branch Manager of SBI Ladrymbai.
It is important to ensure that they are equipped with the necessary knowledge to protect themselves from fraudulent activities, he added.  He said that an awareness programme would serve as a valuable platform to educate the customers about the risks associated with fraud and the best practices to safeguard their hard-earned money.
“Furthermore, conducting such a programme would reinforce the message that SBI is committed to the overall financial well-being of its valued customers. It will demonstrate the proactive steps taken by the bank to address the rising concerns related to fraud and enhance customer satisfaction and trust,” Suchen said.
The union proposed that the awareness programme be organised at a convenient location, such as the community hall or a local school so as to accommodate a significant number of attendees. “We can invite subject matter experts in the field of cybersecurity and fraud prevention to deliver informative sessions, covering topics such as phishing, identity theft, online banking security, and safe usage of ATM services,” he said.
