Shillong, Nov 22: In a spirited clash between two exciting teams, Shillong Lajong emerged triumphant, claiming their second consecutive win by defeating Delhi FC with a 2-1 scoreline at the SSA Stadium in Shillong.
Right from the outset, Lajong dominated the match, maintaining relentless pressure on Delhi. The breakthrough came in the 24th minute when Senegalese forward Karim Samb netted a remarkable goal with an exquisite assist from Kynsaibor Lhuid.
Despite Lajong’s continued attacking prowess, they entered halftime holding a narrow 1-0 lead, having been unable to convert several scoring opportunities.
The second half witnessed Lajong persisting with their aggressive style of play. However, their failure to capitalize on chances allowed Delhi to level the score in the 60th minute, courtesy of a goal from Gaurav Rawat.
Undeterred by the setback, Lajong players regained their composure and staged a strong comeback.
Their persistence paid off in the 82nd minute when Phrangki Buam scored the decisive goal, securing Lajong’s victory.Following this triumph over Delhi FC, Lajong now occupies the fourth position in the league table, amassing nine points from two victories and three draws. In contrast, Delhi FC sits in the sixth position with seven points from five matches.Looking ahead, Shillong Lajong FC is set to face bottom-placed TRAU FC in their fifth consecutive home game on November 25 at 2 pm at the SSA Stadium in Shillong.
The upcoming fixture poses an opportunity for Lajong to further solidify their standing in the league.
Shillong Lajong’s impressive performance against Delhi FC not only secured their second consecutive victory but also propelled them to a commendable fourth place in the league standings. The team showcased resilience and determination, bouncing back from a momentarily equalized score to ultimately clinch the win.
