M’laya cyclists shine at natl MTB event

Shillong, Nov 23: The challenging landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh played host to the 6th Edition National Level MTB Tawang Cycling Competition on November 18 and 19, 2023, jointly organized by the Arunachal Cycling Association and the Cycling Federation of India.
Representing Meghalaya, a contingent of 10 talented cyclists showcased their prowess in the grueling event, securing an impressive haul of 10 medals across various disciplines.
Taking on the demanding terrains and high altitudes of Arunachal Pradesh, the competition attracted participants from all corners of the country, including cyclists from Nepal. In the Women’s Open XCO Mass Start category, Phyrnai Kyndait claimed the Gold medal, while Lawankordor Swer clinched the Bronze. In the Men’s Junior XCO Mass Start, Lambormi Phawa earned the Bronze, and in the Men’s Junior XCO Relay, Lambormi Phawa and Dalenmi Sana secured the Silver.Adding to Meghalaya’s medal tally, Kevinjohn Khyllait and Alvindarison Wanniang captured the Bronze in the Men’s Elite XCO Relay, with three other cyclists receiving consolation prizes.
In the Men’s Elite XCO Mass Start, Maxius Wanniang achieved the 4th position, while Middlestar N Marak secured the 5th position. In the Men’s Junior XCO Mass Start, Dalenmi Sana secured the 4th rank.
This triumph marks a historic achievement for the State Cycling Association, underscoring the success of their strategic training initiatives conducted in the weeks leading up to the event.
The results reflect the growing prominence of cycling in the region and herald a new era of success for Meghalaya in the field of competitive cycling.
The National MTB Tawang Challenge is an annual mountain biking competition held in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, India. The event is organized by the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) and the Arunachal Pradesh Cycling Association (APCA), and it is open to riders of all ages and skill levels.
