SHILLONG, Nov 26: Beyond business management degrees and organised courses, is a family running a small restaurant at Mawkdok viewpoint and making quite a place in the world of entrepreneurship in the state.
Along with the confluence of the clouds, rain and beautiful landscape comes a blend of traditional culinary combined with modern day food that has become a go-to or must-do things that a visit to Mawkdok warrants.
From clouds covering up the landscape accompanied by a light drizzle to a scenic view on a clear weather day, the Mawkodok viewpoint needs no introduction. It has, over the years, turned into a joint for many locals apart from the visiting tourists to spend leisurely time.
For the Lyngdoh family, running a small restaurant at the famous Mawkdok viewpoint with a simple recipe started their inspiring story of feeding uncountable happy souls who flock to the place just to eat their Maggi noodles with an added favour of theirs.
Their popularity is at a level where their maggi is now branded as ‘Mawkdok Maggi’. They have even opened up a branch at Lad Mawreng in Mawngap-Mawphlang road which for now only opens on Sundays.
Even during events, they put up a stall called ‘Mawkdok Maggi’. There were also seen at the recent Tri Hill Ensemble festival held at U Soso Tham auditorium.
“Our uncle made maggi and it tasted different which we liked it. We tried it in our shop and it turns out most of the people they like it. That is how it started and our business started growing,” said Iengskhem Lang Lyngdoh, co-owner of the business.
Iengskhem said, “There is a demand for our business right now. We also got a chance to put up a stall here”.
Another co-owner, Anvesha Lyngdoh, said, “The noodle comes readymade but we add our own extra flavour to it and people like it”.
According to Anvesha, the business takes off on Sundays with people from Shillong also arriving at their shop to relish the recipe.
She said that over six boxes of Maggi are used on a Sunday, and around three to four on regular days. A box contains 96 packets of Maggi.
Stating that they cater to a range of customers including locals and tourists, Anvesha said their shop has become an important joint for bikers who ride 30 odd kilometres to Mawkdok just to have the Mawkdok Maggi.
At the Tri Hills Ensemble, their stall remained busy throughout as they served hot noodles of different flavours to the customers.
A young student who was found enjoying the noodles said, “It has a reputation of being very good. Plus it is far to travel there (Mawkdok), so when it is here, why not”.
Another student said the Mawkdok Maggi lived up to her expectations.
