SHILLONG, Nov 30: The Meghalaya Upper Primary School Association (MUPSTA) will be holding a conference as part of the celebration of its 30th anniversary in Ummulong, West Jaintia Hills, on December 5. Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma has agreed to grace the occasion.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, MUPSTA president Kenneth Shadap said the conference will let the members deliberate over different issues afflicting the teachers in the state. He added that the association, which was formed in 1993, has been in the forefront to raise the issues faced by the teaching community, especially when it comes enhancing their salaries.  Shadap revealed that the state government has placed their various demands before the State Education Commission (SEC).
“We have full faith on the commission that it will give due consideration to the various demands. I am sure that the government will try to address their various demands after receiving the recommendations from the commission. We hope that the teachers will no longer need to come out to the streets to demand their rights,” MUPSTA president said.
He also announced that he has decided to retire from the post of the president after the conference.
