This will be the 5th edition of the Meghalaya Games and the first time that it is being held in Tura. This edition of the Meghalaya Games is expected to be a much bigger event compared to the previous editions.
A meeting was convened on Friday by the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani in the presence of Superintendent of Police Abraham T Sangma and other state officials including various committee members of the Meghalaya Games.
Laloo apprised the gathering that the venue for 19 sports disciplines out of 23 have been confirmed and that further preparations are still on.
She stated even though the various committees had already been constituted it was critical that they work together with effective coordination. Speaking on logistics the Director informed that the event is expected to be much bigger than previous events and that 2,900 plus odd athletes’ coaches and managers will be participating in the games.
She stated that this will be a great opportunity for people from around the state to mingle and get to know each other and show camaraderie and bonding.
Sports should only be the base but it should be a rich platform to facilitate meaningful exchanges, she added.
