SHILLONG, Dec 2: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader George B Lyngdoh has relinquished the posts of party’s state vice president and Umroi Block Committee president. The decision caught everyone unawares.
Lyngdoh submitted his resignation letter to party president, Charles Pyngrope stating that the decision was driven by personal circumstances.
“The previous years of association under your esteemed leadership and guidance have been a treasured experience of inestimable worth and value. You and other esteemed leaders have been a patron towards me, and the ones who have always cast a light on how best to turn problems into possibilities, and obstacles into opportunities,” Lyngdoh wrote.
Asked if he is joining any other party, Lyngdoh avoided a direct reply. He said he is still a primary member of the TMC.
Pyngrope said Lyngdoh will be requested to shoulder the responsibility again as soon as he gets over his “personal obligations” and that he may also be asked to lead the party as president. “He has relinquished the post of vice president but he still is a primary member of the party. He is not holding any responsible post because of his personal obligations,” Pyngrope said.
Asked if this development is the outcome of any conflicts within the party, Pyngrope said, “Nothing like that. He (Lyngdoh) personally came to meet me to relieve him of his duties as the vice president, not as the member of the party.”
Talking about that meeting, he said, “I told him there is no issue now. But, maybe, I will ask you to join very soon. Who knows, I may also ask you to be the president.”
