SHILLONG, Dec 3: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has made a clarion call for the two major regional forces of the state — the UDP and HSPDP under the banner of Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) — to raise their voices in unison on matters pertaining to their common good as well as other issues, and not only elections.
HSPDP chief KP Pangniang, on Sunday, said that the two parties will have their specific issues. He, however, clarified that the UDP may back the HSPDP’s demand for a separate Khasi-Jaintia state in the near future but not immediately.
“We will need to respect each other’s concerns. We will have a formal discussion amongst the party leaders about the issues that we will take up together and the issues which we will raise independently,” Pangniang said.
The party chief, while stating that the RDA partners should back each other on all important issues in the future, said that the main motive of the RDA is to bind all the regional parties into a single force.
“We will continue to reach out to the other regional forces to join the RDA,” the HSPDP president said.
It is pertinent to note that the HSPDP has decided to back the candidate proposed by UDP for Shillong parliamentary seat.
