State climbers gear up for NE Zone competition in Sikkim

Shillong, Dec 5: The Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association is set to make its mark at the IMF North East Zone Sport Climbing Competition in Chemchey, Sikkim, scheduled from December 7 to 10, 2023.
The association, with support from the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, conducted trials on December 2, followed by a two-day training session that concluded on Tuesday.
A total of thirteen climbers have been selected to represent Meghalaya in the upcoming competition, under the leadership of team manager Hunlin Lyngdoh. Additionally, four members of the association, namely Kayleigh Petra Nongkynrih, Bakordor Umsong, Teimiki Sungoh, and Ibakordor Shisha Mary Sawian, will play pivotal roles as judges, route setters, and belayers at the zonal competition.
Expressing gratitude, the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association, in a press release on Tuesday, acknowledged the Commandant of 58 Gorkha Training Centre in Happy Valley for generously allowing the use of their climbing wall for the selection and training processes leading up to the zonal competition.

The Meghalaya contingent comprises Valarie Suchiang in the Women Open category, Ricky Rani and Balawan Habor Rynjah in the Men Open category, and a promising lineup in various sub-junior and junior categories.
The climbers are gearing up for a spirited performance, and the association is optimistic about their success at the forthcoming zonal competition.
