MAWKYRWAT, Dec 7: Left to fend for itself following the recent censure, Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital was on Thursday dubbed as a ‘model hospital’ in the state by none other than the Health Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh.
She was at the hospital for its inspection when she made the statement, which stood contrary to the claims of a group which had alleged that the hospital remained in a muddle, recently.
The 100-bed facility, inaugurated last year, is operating at full capacity to meet the healthcare needs of the community, asserted Lyngdoh.
“I have visited many hospitals in the state, and I should give certification to this as a model hospital in the state,” she added following the review meeting with the doctors, nurses and staff of the hospital.
Despite challenges, especially in low immunisation performance, she certified the hospital as a model institution, while highlighting the importance of parental involvement for child development and health benefits.
The health minister also urged the parents to take advantage of the available services.
She revealed plans to address difficulties in accessing healthcare by considering sub-centres or health and wellness centres in 79 hard-to-reach villages.
Additionally, the government is exploring the use of drone technology for transporting medicines and medical kits to these remote areas.
She also emphasised on the immediate need to set up a blood bank unit in the hospital  and to explore ways and means to deal with non communicable diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes, tuberculosis as well as cancer.
She called the NGOs for support and cooperation with the government so as to bring progress and development in this area in terms of healthcare.
Key attendees in the meeting included Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L Tongkhar, Additional Deputy Commissioner YR Mawlong, Director DHS (MI) Dr HC Lyndem, Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Mawkyrwat Dr W Sutnga, District Medical & Health Officer, Mawkyrwat, Dr FR Lartang, among others.
