SHILLONG, Dec 7: Floral tributes were paid by KSU members to commemorate the 29th death anniversary of Bull N Lyngdoh, former KSU president at his bust located near Shillong Law College, Dhanketi, on Thursday.
Lyngdoh, who was the union’s president from 1984 to 1989, had dedicated his life for the protection of the indigenous community, said Donald Thabah, KSU general secretary.
Recalling that it was during his tenure that there was a revolt by the Khasi indigenous community, in response to alleged conversion of several localities into non-Khasi colonies, in localities like Mawlai, Mawprem, Nongmensong, he added that the leader was committed and determined to fight for the protection of the community, and was allegedly also beaten up and arrested for it.
“The popularity of a leader of the stature of late Lyngdoh is not restricted within the boundary of the state and his footprints and sacrifices for the betterment and interest of the indigenous  tribal community will always be remembered,” the KSU general secretary added.
Thabah urged upon the youth to emulate the good example shown by the former leader who dedicated his life for the welfare of the community.
