SHILLONG, Dec 10: Health Minister and NPP’s candidate for Shillong Lok Sabha seat, Ampareen Lyngdoh rejected the perception that an election drives a wedge between coalition partners.
The NPP, she claimed, has always believed in taking allies along.
“It is a wrong perception that the relationship between coalition partners gets severed during elections and the distance between them increases,” she said when asked if the NPP was distancing itself from the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
The two parties became bitter rivals during the Assembly election earlier this year but mended fences to form the MDA 2.0 government along with other parties.
Lyngdoh said it is not unusual in a democracy for two parties to blow hot and cold. “The NPP was attacked below the belt but we rose above it and the Chief Minister reached out to all political parties to form the coalition,” she said.
“I am sure we will be back on the same platform working together for the benefit of the people after the (Lok Sabha) electioneering,” she added, insisting that she would lead by example to offset any political problem.
“But I will try my best to beat my rivals, party notwithstanding,” she said, indicating the contest with candidates put up by coalition partners could be a friendly one.
