Hima Khyrim gets garbage collection truck from KHADC

Shillong, Dec 12: The Hima Khyrim on Tuesday received a garbage collection truck from the Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (KHADC) which was sanctioned through the Chief Minister Special Development Fund for the year 2022-2023.
The garbage collection truck was formally handed over to Syiem of Hima Khyrim, Dr Balajied Syiem by KHADC CEM, Pyniaid Sing Syiem at a function held at Iingsad in Smit.
Others present on the occasion included the two Executive Members (EMs) of the council, Fantin J. Lakadong and Carness Sohshang besides the Lyngdohs of the Hima among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Syiem of Hima Khyrim said that the Hima for a long time had wanted to have its own garbage collection truck since they have only one mini truck.
According to him, this support given by the KHADC will definitely go a long way to maintain the cleanliness in and around Smit area.
Meanwhile, KHADC CEM mentioned that the village authorities are now empowered as per provision laid down in the Solid Waste Management Act 2020, to impose penalties on individuals found littering or violating the Act.
