NONGPOH, Dec 11: In a daring heist reminiscent of a Hollywood blockbuster, a brazen gang of criminals left the Madan Mohan Obhrai & CO WSP of ITC Limited in shock following a meticulously executed robbery at their 15th Mile warehouse in the wee hours of Monday.
Operating under the cloak of darkness, more than 10 elusive individuals surreptitiously infiltrated the secure premises, employing a portable ladder to bypass security measures with the finesse of seasoned professionals.
Once within the confines of the cigarette haven, the criminals swiftly immobilised three security guards, deftly using gamocha (mufflers) as blindfolds and restraints, rendering them powerless against the impending criminal onslaught.
With the guards incapacitated, the gang brandished a lever rod, showcasing their adept locksmith skills by breaching not one but two shutter locks guarding the entrance to the valuable stash of cigarettes. The warehouse’s CCTV cameras proved no match for the criminals,
as they skillfully redirected the lenses skyward, erasing any traces of their nocturnal activities.
What could be the motive behind this audacious act? Brace yourselves – a staggering 255 cartons of cigarettes! But that’s not the end of it. The loot also featured a collection of high-tech items, including a router, DVR, and CPU, transforming this heist from a mere smash-and-grab into a technologically savvy caper.
Ri-Bhoi Police swiftly responded to the incident, initiating a comprehensive manhunt to track down and apprehend those responsible for the daring crime.
