SHILLONG, Dec 12: A garbage collection truck was formally handed over to the Hima Khyrim on Tuesday.
Initiated by the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KHADC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, the truck was sanctioned under Chief Minister Special Development Fund for the year 2022-2023.
The CEM handed over the garbage truck to the Syiem of Hima Khyrim, Dr Balajied Syiem, in a function at Iingsad, Smit.
Others present on the occasion include two Executive Members (EMs) of the Council — Fantin J Lakadong and Carness Sohshang — besides the various Lyngdoh of the Hima among others.
Speaking on the occasion, the Syiem of Hima Khyrim said that the Hima had wanted to have its own garbage collection truck for a long time since they only had a mini truck.
According to him, this initiative will go a long way in maintaining the cleanliness in and around Smit area.
Meanwhile, the KHADC Chief Executive Member mentioned that the village authorities are now empowered as per provision laid down in the Solid Waste Management Act 2020, to impose penalties on individuals found littering or violating the Act.
