TURA, Dec 12: The Garo Hills Youth Organization (GHYO) has filed a complaint to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner alleging alleging embezzlement of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) funds as per the data, report and records available in the JJM Portal.
The complaint petition submitted on Monday is with regard to the JJM (Augmentation of Nekikona Combined WSS & Construction of Babilgre WSS) work implementation at Askikandi village where no installation of any water Tap or pipes provided can be seen.
According to the organization, reports available in the JJM portal indicated that the project at Asikandi village has been successfully implemented.
However, it claimed that not a single tap or water pipe was seen to be installed or connected at Asikandi village or other villages under the said two projects. The organization further claimed that apart from a water tank already installed in a school, there was no visible water supply connection to it.
“On the JJM portal, the status on the availability of drinking water through a tap connection as well as running water in the toilets was marked ‘Yes’. This gives an indication that something is amiss as no such implementation has taken place,” its President Nazmul Hasan said.
Interestingly, the JJM portal as per Hasan, also revealed that some amount of the funds in the name of JJM water supply provided to households of Asikandi and other villages have already been withdrawn.
Pointing out that there was possible embezzlement of funds in connection with the two said projects, the organization sought an inquiry at the earliest to bring the matter to light.
The organisation also demanded strong action against the officials as well as the contractor concerned if they are found guilty of fund misuse.
