Shillong, Dec 12: The KHADC is hopeful that the council’s delimitation committee would be able to complete its mandate of realignment of the 29 constituencies on time.
KHADC Deputy CEM, PN Syiem told The Shillong Times on Tuesday that the committee has been holding public hearing in the constituencies.
The exercise is necessary to realign some of the bigger constituencies like Nongstoin and Mawlai.
“The purpose is to rationalise the number of voters. The proposal is for adjustment of voters in the KHADC constituencies so that there is parity in the constituencies,” he said.
According to him, the KHADC has received petitions from several villages with the request that they be aligned with other constituencies.
He also dismissed the notion that the current EC was holding the delimitation exercise with the intention of delaying the district council polls.
