SHILLONG, Dec 12: The Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA), consisting of the UDP and the HSPDP, failed to finalise the name of the common candidate to fight the Lok Sabha election from the Shillong seat. The two parties, however, reached an agreement to fight the District Council elections together.
The decision was taken at a late night meeting of the two parties on Tuesday.
“We met today and decided to co-opt six members from the UDP and five from the HSPDP in the RDA,” UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh said after the meeting.
The UDP chief also mentioned that the two parties held discussions and on the upcoming Lok Sabha and the ADC polls.
“We will meet shortly to finalise the common candidate for the Lok Sabha poll,” he added.
“We have not discussed about any particular name as far as RDA is concerned we will come out with the name in the next meeting soon,” he said, while reacting to speculations that former HYC president Robertjune Kharjahrin will be the consensus candidate of the RDA.
