SHILLONG, Dec 16: Christmas fervor seems to have begun setting in; the commercial areas of the city are bustling with people while several parts are being decked up for festivities.
Iewduh was chock-a-block with people, much to the joy of traders at the traditional market. Police Bazar was partially decorated sending festive feelers to visitors.
Clothing stores in Police Bazar have seen decent footfall so far, although many shopkeepers lament that online shopping continues to hamper their business.
Getting to these places, however, is a mammoth task, as one has to bear the brunt of Shillong’s vexing traffic that can potentially keep you stranded for an hour or more. This, some may argue, dampens the spirit of revellers.
Meanwhile, government offices and commercial establishments, although illuminated, seemed almost deserted. On Friday, scanty staff as well as ministers were seen at the state Secretariat. The city now awaits the grand festivities as preparations brace to come to a close.
