SHILLONG, Dec 17: Even though Ampareen Lyngdoh, the NPP candidate for the Shillong parliamentary seat, has not yet formally launched her campaign, she has begun visiting a few of the villages in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for next year.
“Yes, I’ve already arrived at the pitch. I visited a few of the villages in South West Khasi Hills. I would try to cover as many of the villages in the few months which are left before the Lok Sabha election is held,” she said on Sunday.
She claimed that even though the Election Commission has not yet released the dates of the Lok Sabha elections, she should still have until April next year.
In response to a question, she stated that she was unsure if launching her campaign so early—before other parties had even declared their nominees—would be advantageous for her.
“At this time, I won’t talk much about my plans. Once we are out in the field and fully engaged in our campaign, we will make the appropriate disclosures,” Lyngdoh stated.
She also disclosed that she will be formally launching her campaign early next year.
Although she admitted that she was initially taken aback when the party asked her to run for the MP seat, she now feels both physically and psychologically ready for it.
The NPP candidate for the Shillong parliamentary seat declared that she had offered to put in a lot of effort in order to win this election and become our state’s MP for the Shillong parliamentary seat.
She claimed that this is the first time a woman has been given the chance to win the Shillong parliamentary seat.
“No woman has ever been elected from the constituency. I’m ready if people think me qualified to represent them as an MP,” she added.
